OCT

Safeguard your eyes with state-of-the-art screening technology.

OCT – Ocular Coherence Tomography – is a new, highly advanced eye scan for people of all ages.

OCT scans are completely painless, fast and non-invasive. Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye. OCT is different from digital retinal photography as this only captures the surface of the back of the eye. OCT captures all the layers of the retina in a cross-sectional image, so we can see more information for an even more accurate eye examination.

Common conditions identified through OCT include:

• Age-related macular degeneration
• Diabetes
• Glaucoma
• Macular holes
• Vitreous detachments

OCT screening will safeguard your eye health. All your scans will be kept on your records for future comparisons. By having an ongoing record of the health of your retina we can spot any potential problems as quickly as possible. Fast detection leads to faster treatment and usually a better visual outcome.

OCT scans are included as part of our comprehensive eye examination and are free of charge if you are an Eyeplan member. To find out more or to book an OCT scan, please contact us.
